Brouet, Auguste 1872-1941 Brouet studied under the French Symbolist painter Gustave Moreau at the renowned Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris. However, it was the work of the Dutch ciaroscuro master Rembrandt from whom he drew his greatest inspiration.
Brouet worked for James Whistler and Edgar Degas and was in demand as an illustrator of literary works. His images are keen observations of popular life, urban landscapes and architectural views.
